Job Description

About BHP

At BHP, we enable our people to advance, acquire knowledge, refine their skills, and realize their full capabilities. With a global operational portfolio, we present a diverse and inclusive workplace offering remarkable career paths. Our strategy revolves around cultivating a safe work setting where our staff feel strongly aligned with our values and goals, and where the competence of our team is crucial to our success. Become part of this achievement.

About the Role

Are you prepared to implement your university learnings at Australia’s global resources organization, collaborating within diverse teams that will back, motivate, and assist you in enhancing your technical abilities and experience for your future?

Spanning from our Queensland Coal Operations to the South Australian Copper Province and Western Australian Iron Ore, or various office locations – the BHP Australia Intern Program presents an excellent opportunity to commence your career journey and accumulate valuable experience.

As a BHP Intern, you’ll spend 10-12 weeks with us over the summer break, building your professional connections with various technical specialists and graduates, and experiencing different work settings.

You’ll gain early career exposure to the resources industry and participate in networking functions with fellow interns and graduates. Furthermore, successful interns receive priority access to our Australian Graduate Program opportunities or may be invited for another internship if still in the early years of their degree studies.

Since our Intern positions in engineering and science are primarily based residentially near our mining sites or involve Fly-In-Fly-Out (FIFO) schedules, your willingness to consider either arrangement is important for undertaking an intern role. Positions like Technology and Finance support our operations from city locations, yet remain closely connected to the operational activities.

What we are looking for

Eligible candidates will be students currently between their second and penultimate year, available to work with us during the summer break in Australia at the end of 2025.

Your degree could be in areas including (but not limited to):

  • Engineering: Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electrical, Civil, Geotechnical, Metallurgy / Minerals Processing, Chemical, Construction, Mining, Environmental, Instrumentation Control and Automation
  • Science: Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental and Earth Sciences, Physics, Chemistry, Spatial Science (Surveying), Geographical Information Systems
  • Health Science: Safety, Occupational Hygiene, Health, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Nursing, Paramedical Science
  • Technology: Data Science, Computer Science, Applied Statistics, Software Engineering, Mathematics
  • Business: Accounting, Finance, Supply Chain, Logistics Management and Commerce

To excel in our program, you should be adaptable and flexible, possess a strong desire to learn, and embrace change. Outstanding communication abilities, both verbal and written, are vital, along with the capacity to collaborate effectively in a team and solve problems. For additional details about our intern program and to better prepare for our process, we recommend visiting our website and watching an FAQ video featuring recent graduates to understand the opportunities available.

Please note: International students with a valid visa allowing unrestricted work for the internship duration are welcome to apply.

About Our Process

BHP is dedicated to employing individuals who align with the BHP Charter Values and meet the role’s requirements. As part of the recruitment procedure, various checks may be conducted to assess applicant suitability, including police/criminal background checks, medical screenings, drug and alcohol tests, due diligence, right-to-work checks, and/or reference verification.
